AirAsia boss said he felt 'devastated'

Top leadership of AirAsia, Tony Fernandes, said he felt "devastated" by the loss of the plane carrying 162 people from Surabaya to Singapore.

AirAsia aircraft with flight number QZ8501 was lost after the last contact at 6:17 pm, Sunday, December 28th.

Department of Transportation said the location of the loss of aircraft between the island of Borneo with Belitung Island and the search process has been stopped when the weather was dark to resume Monday morning December 29.

In a press statement in Surabaya, Tony Fernandes, confirmed that they do not know exactly what was going on and are ready to cooperate with the authorities who will carry out the investigation.

"We are devastated by this happens, it can not be trusted. But this time we do not know what exactly happened so we are waiting for an investigation into the accident to find that happen."


Fernandes, who is based in Malaysia to fly directly to Surabaya for helping the families of the victims and the flight crew.

"Our concern now is for the family, and there is nothing more important than that, of the family of crew and passengers, we will help them."

"We expect the plane will be found soon and we can find out the cause of what happened," he added.

When A320-200 aircraft lost contact, reported bad weather hit the region and pilot had requested permission to raise the aircraft to 38,000 feet altitude of 32.00 feet to avoid the cloud.

AirAsia is a low-cost airline based in Malaysia, but quite popular in Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia.
